'Sons of Martyrs' caravan kick-starts in Jeddah

JEDDAH – More than 10 government and private departments and agencies are taking part in the four-day “Caravan of Martyrs’ Sons,” which kick-started in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Princess Hind Bint Abdurahman, chairperson of the Supreme Committee for the Caravan, said the initiative aimed at highlighting the great sacrifices made by the military personnel who were martyred on duty and honoring more than 100 people, including the children and family members of the martyrs.

The kin of martyrs from various regions of the Kingdom are being received at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. As part of the activities, a special iftar banquet has been organized for them at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

Several Ramadan programs and activities, including contests, electronic games, folklore performances, and special galleries for plastic arts and innovative initiatives, are planned during the caravan. Several trips and visits are also planned.

Al-Bandari Bint Ali, chairperson of the committee for the families of the martyrs, has said around 60 percent of the members of the working team of the Caravan are women and the initiative is also part of boosting women empowerment, which is one of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
