BARCELONA — Patri Guijarro was a surprise inclusion in Jorge Vilda's Spain squad for next month's women's World Cup in France which was announced on Monday.
The Barcelona midfielder has been out for five months with a foot injury and although passed fit did not feature in their Champions League final defeat by Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday.
Guijarro, 20, is one of 10 Barcelona players included in the squad for Spain's second appearance at the World Cup.
La Roja are looking to improve on their performance in 2015 when they finished bottom of their group.
Atletico Madrid trio Angela Sosa, Esther Gonzalez and Olga Garcia were surprisingly left out.
"Until 24 hours before the first game, if there is any question or injury, (Sosa) has the chance of playing at the World Cup," Vilda told reporters.
Spain are in Group B with South Africa, Germany and China.
