OSAKA, Japan — The Kingdom has a prominent role in promoting global digital economy policies, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Sawaha told a gathering of G20 ministers here on Saturday.

The G20 digital economy meeting was attended by G20 communications and IT ministers and experts in preparation for the G20 Summit to be hosted by Japan on June 28 and 29.

Al-Sawaha said: “The meetings discussed many issues and policies related to digital economy.”

It discussed the importance of finding effective solutions to the challenges facing the rise of global digital economy and digital security to enhance the safety of products and services as top priority.

Among other issues of concern discussed at the meeting were those related to the free flow of authentic data, artificial intelligence for achieving the goals of sustainable development, encouraging innovation and digital entrepreneurship and innovation governance so as to support and empower nascent technologies through appropriate organizational frameworks, developing SMEs to enhance comprehensive economic growth.

The Kingdom’s participation in the G20, which includes the most powerful world economies, is of special importance especially due to its effective role in the group that represents 80 percent of the total world trade and some 90 percent of the total global GDP.
