TAIF —
An average of 227 marriages took place in Saudi Arabia daily during the holy month of Ramadan, the Justice Ministry said.

A total of 6,603 marriage contracts were concluded in the country during the fasting month, which is about 13 percent more compared to the previous Ramadan, the Arabic daily Makkah reported on Sunday quoting figures released by the ministry.

At the same time, the ministry said an average of 83 divorces took place each day during the month.

It said about 88 percent of the marriage contracts were between Saudi couples.

Riyadh came first with 1,515 marriage contracts in Ramadan while Baha came at the bottom of the list with only 102 marriage contracts during the month.

The ministry said the courts in Riyadh and Makkah documented about 52 percent of the divorce deeds, which ranged from 21 to 221 per day.

There were between 2,376 and 5,333 divorces in the Kingdom each month.
