ABHA — A baby boy allegedly suffered second and third degree burns in his right foot at the nursery of a private hospital in Asir.

According to the boy's father Mohammed Akram, an Afghan national, his son was born only 48 hours earlier when the accident occurred.

The father said the health condition of his son, Maaz, who is now a month old, is still not stable.

He said he lodged a complaint with the management of the hospital but there was no response.

The father said he asked the hospital to treat his son for the severe burns he sustained while in the nursery but his request was completely ignored.

Akram said he raised another complaint through the Health Ministry's toll free emergency number 937 and was immediately called by the Department of Health Affairs, which asked him to lodge a formal complaint.

"The condition of my son is still not stable. I requested help for his treatment and also for an investigation to find out what caused the burns and to those responsible for it accountable," he said.

Akram obtained an official report from the Maternity and Children's Hospital stating that there were deep burns in the baby's right foot in an area having a diameter of four centimeters, but the bones were not affected.

The report said the baby would need at least four weeks to heal if there were no setbacks.

The police asked the hospital in Khamis Mushayt to examine the child, treat him and decide the time required for him to heal completely. They also asked the hospital to hand the reports to the father.
