JEDDAH — The Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan has praised the Council of Minister's approval to set up a "national register for works of art", Saudi Press Agency reported recently.

Prince Badr lauded the limitless support the culture and arts sector in the Kingdom is getting from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

The Minister of Culture said that the national register for works of art will become a guide and database for works of art of all kinds in the Kingdom.

The objective is to safeguard, collect and keep these works safely so as to contribute to making the best use of this guide to promote and acquaint people with these works so that they can be reached easily by researchers and people interested in them. The aim is also to ensure that such works are not lost.

Prince Badr stressed the richness of the Saudi arts field. He drew attention to the fact that Saudi artists have taken part in the most renowned international exhibitions and their presence has attracted attention.

He said that the ministry is working on giving a push forward to the policies and plans so as to place arts and culture in the very heart of society’s life and build bridges of understanding between cultures.

He added that the ministry has drawn up its vision and policies with three major objectives — culture as a lifestyle, culture for economic development and culture to enhance the Kingdom’s position globally. — SPA
