NEW YORK — The Carolina Hurricanes and forward Brock McGinn have agreed to a two-year, $4.2 million contract, avoiding arbitration.

McGinn will earn $1.9 million in 2019-20 and $2.3 million in 2020-21.

"We're relieved to have this settled before going to arbitration," said Don Waddell, Carolina's general manager and president. "Brock was an important part of what we accomplished last season and we're happy to have him as part of our group moving forward."

The Boston Bruins swept the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals.

The 25-year-old had 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 82 games with the Hurricanes in 2018-19. He also appeared in 15 games during the Stanley Cup playoffs, tallying six points (two goals, four assists). He scored the series-clinching goal in double overtime in Game 7 of the Canes' first-round series against Washington.

A second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft by Carolina, McGinn has 76 career points (36 goals, 40 assists) in 240 career games. — Reuters
