Saudi scholarship student drowns in a lake in Ohio

The US authorities have found the body of a Saudi scholarship student, who drowned in a lake in Ohio State on Wednesday.

The scholarship student Sharaf Al-Hashim, 24, went missing after his attempt to retrieve a ball from the lake neighboring the soccer playground where he and his friends were playing.

Al-Hashim hails from Al-Qateef governorate in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province. A final year undergraduate student in chemical engineering in Cleveland State University in Ohio State, Al-Hashim was getting ready for his wedding, according to reports

Meanwhile, Alawi Al-Hashim, the brother of the deceased, said his brother disappeared from sight when he went to retrieve a ball from the lake neighboring their playground. After that they searched for him but all their efforts were fruitless. At this point, they called the police. After search operations, his body was found in the lake bed. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The Saudi Embassy in the US contacted the family of the drowned student to inform them on his death and complete the official procedures for handing over the body and transport it to the Kingdom.
