RIYADH — The Shoura Council on Tuesday decided not to continue carrying out studies on the proposed law for the control of electronic games, which was mooted by some members.

The Council took its decision after hearing the report of the Committee on Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities on the proposal and the views and observations of the members.

The committee explained that all aspects and objectives that the proposed law aims to achieve include a number of regulations, such as the law of printing and publications and its executive regulations; the child protection law and its executive regulations; the Customs law; and the audiovisual law.

The committee stated that many provisions in the proposed law have already been covered in the audiovisual law and its executive regulations.

Moreover, the General Authority for Audiovisual Media has worked out age classification for electronic games, and banned a number of games, because of their non-compliance with the conditions approved by the authority.
