RIYADH –
Police arrested a man for allegedly stabbing and injuring a Customs official at the Saudi–Kuwaiti border point of Khafji in the Eastern Province. The official was attacked while inspecting the vehicle entering the Kingdom from Kuwait.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at the border point, according to a statement of the Saudi Customs. “When the Customs official was inspecting a private vehicle driven by a man, he discovered smuggled material hidden inside a designated place in the vehicle. While the inspector was taking out the material, the smuggler started beating him, and another inspector intervened resisting the smuggler to stop attacking him. At that time, the smuggler took out a knife and stabbed the second inspector in his shoulder. Subsequently, the attacker was overpowered by the officials.

The official, who was admitted to a hospital, is in a stable condition. The security authorities are taking necessary legal procedures against the detained assaulter and started an investigation into the incident. The Customs Directorate condemned the incident, the statement added.
