ISLAMABAD – Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan received at his office in Islamabad on Tuesday Prince Sultan Bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Space Commission and president of the Princess Sultana Charity Foundation. Prince Sultan is on a private visit to Pakistan to inspect the foundation’s humanitarian activities.
During the meeting, Imran Khan expressed his appreciation of Saudi Arabia for its humanitarian efforts, praising the Princess Sultana Foundation’s pioneering role in serving the Pakistani society for about 30 years and contributing to achieving many educational, social and humanitarian benefits.
The prime minister expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s economic support to Pakistan and the initiatives which were underway to build a stronger economic relationship between the two countries. He also underscored that the relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were unique and based on shared religion, culture and history.
On his part, Prince Sultan highlighted the close affinity between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and deeply appreciated the role played by Pakistani professionals, especially doctors and engineers in the progress and development of Saudi Arabia. He underscored the need for Islamic Ummah to better understand its cultural and religious heritage and to project it to remove misconceptions about Islam.
Prince Sultan lauded the prime minister for his support to the foundation to achieve its lofty mission in the dissemination of science and humanitarian giving. He invited the prime minister to visit the Foundation and learn about its activities. The meeting was attended by Nawaf Al-Maliki, Saudi ambassador to Pakistan and the accompanying delegation.
Earlier in the day, Prince Sultan visited the headquarters of the Sultana Foundation and its affiliated centers. The foundation, established by Princess Sultana Bint Turki Al-Sudairy in May 1990, is a chain of centers and schools. Its programs have benefited more than 120,000 students and the institution is currently hosting more than 7,000 students in different phases from primary to university to receive education in various branches of knowledge. It also includes a medical center, and contributes to education of poor students, along with its focus on building behavioral skills and moral values.
The foundation has the personal support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, prime minister of Pakistan, and the constant follow-up and attention of Prince Sultan, and his brothers and sisters who are children of Princess Sultana. It is noteworthy that King Salman visited the foundation headquarters in 1998 during his visit to Pakistan, when he was the emir of Riyadh region.
The foundation is an educational institution founded by Dr. Naim Ghani in Islamabad in 1990, and in October 1992, Princess Sultana donated the construction of a complex of colleges and facilities of the foundation, and in recognition of the support, the founders named the foundation after Princess Sultana. In 2001, the Princess Sultana University College for Women was established, which provides higher education for women in the region.
