RIYADH — Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan said that the four countries boycotting Qatar are supporting the Kuwaiti mediation and these efforts were ongoing but better conducted away from the media (spotlight).
Prince Faisal’s remarks came during a joint press conference with GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani at the conclusion of the 40th Gulf summit in Riyadh.
Prince Faisal said that threats from the Iranian regime affect all the countries in the region, adding that Iran must change its behavior before it calls for peace.
Replying to a question, Prince Faisal said, “It is difficult for Iran to be part of a security council in the region.”
“The Gulf leaders stressed the importance of the cohesion of the GCC countries.”
“Stability in Lebanon which has been rocked by more than a month of protests that forced the prime minister to resign, was “very, very important” to the Kingdom,” Prince Faisal said.
Prince Faisal added he would not “pre-judge” a conference planned this week in Paris to support Lebanon, which is facing its worst economic crisis since the 1975-90 civil war. “I’ll wait for the results of the conference.”
The Gulf leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining unity between members of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, Al-Zayani said.
GCC leaders lauded the devoted efforts of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to mend the Gulf rift, Al-Zayani said.
Al-Zayani noted that the Supreme Council welcomed the opening of the official headquarters of the International Alliance for the Protection and the Safety of Maritime Navigation and ensuring the safety of sea routes in Bahrain.
Al-Zayani indicated that the Supreme Council welcomed the holding of the GCC 41st session in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
