RIYADH — Fifty persons have been detained in the capital on charges of harassment, while 51 people were held for violating public decorum as the Riyadh police acted and implemented the anti-harassment and public decorum laws.

Acting on clues and complaints from residents during the past two days (Thursday and Wednesday), police arrested the culprits harassing the public, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the spokesman of Riyadh Region Police Lt. Col. Shaker Bin Sulaiman Al-Twaijri as saying.

“This is in addition to taking the regulatory measures for carrying out the penalties stated in the anti-harassment regulation against the 50,” he added.

In an another statement on Tuesday, Lt. Col. Al-Twaijri said: “Within the sphere of the security authorities carrying out their functions in implementing the executive bylaw for maintaining public decorum, fifty one cases of violating public decorum have been registered and action taken on the violators.”

The violators were 22 men and 29 women, Al-Twaijri said, adding, that the violations included wearing inappropriate clothes in public areas. — SG
