38 arrested for harassing women, 60 held for indecency

RIYADH — Concerned authorities have arrested 38 people on charges of harassing women and 60 others for wearing indecent clothes in public places, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the spokesman of Riyadh Police Lt. Col. Shaker Bin Sulaiman Al-Twaijri as stating Sunday.

The incidents took place specifically on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Al-Twaijri said.

Within the sphere of the security authorities carrying out their follow up tasks, the harassers were apprehended after evidence revealed that they were involved in these acts.

In this regard, the police received several reports and information by citizens and expatriates. The harassers were taken into custody and measures in line with the regulations were taken against them.

Lt. Col. Al-Twaijri said that in addition to these, 23 men and 37 women were arrested for donning by wearing immodest clothing in public places.

The arrests were made by implementing the bylaw for maintaining public decorum, approved by the Council of Ministers in its decision No. 444 dated April 10, 2019 corresponding to Sha’ban 4, 1440. — SPA
