Fire breaks out in Corniche tower under construction

JEDDAH — Jeddah City, in the western part of Saudi Arabia, woke up on Friday morning to a fire that broke out in a tower under construction.

Civil Defense teams responded fast and are in the process of extinguishing the fire, which is still ablaze.

The Saudi Civil Defense tweeted on its official Twitter account, pictures showing flames rising from the topmost floors of one of the towers.

The tweet said: “The Jeddah Civil Defense teams are now fighting and putting out a fire in a tower under construction at Jeddah Corniche. The firefighting operations are still continuing.”

The same account tweeted at 11.27 a.m. Friday, saying: “About 60 percent of the fire has been controlled. The firefighting operations are still continuing. No injuries have been reported, thanks to Allah Almighty.”
