TAIF — Setting a unique humanitarian example, a young Saudi woman official donated her kidney to her ailing father. Hanouf Al-Baqmi, head of the women’s wing of Taif municipality, is convalescing after undergoing surgical operation for transplanting her kidney to father.
Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Hanouf said that it was a noble gift from her to beloved father. Hanouf said she will return to work in the municipality once her sick leave ends. Hanouf’s father was diagnosed with renal failure during tests carried out in Paris two years ago and his condition worsened further a year ago. Subsequently, Hanouf thought of giving her father the best gift that she ever could offer. “I offered to donate my kidney as the best gift to save his life. It was the happiest decision that I took without any hesitation,” she said.
It was found in medical tests that her kidney tissues and blood matched those of her father and eventually the surgery to remove the kidney and the transplant were carried out at a Jeddah hospital successfully.
