JEDDAH — On the occasion of World Kidney Day on Thursday, Dr Essam Aggour, specialist in kidney diseases, transplant, and dialysis, Saudi German Hospitals Group, encouraged people to avoid drinking sparkling water and sodas as well as taking painkillers for a long time. He also recommended avoiding flavored chips, smoked, and processed meats completely.

Sharing some key tips to aid in the prevention of kidney diseases, Dr. Aggour, highlighted the importance of drinking at least eight glasses of water a day, getting enough sleep, eating vegetables, and leading an active lifestyle to maintain a healthy weight, as obesity can cause damage to the kidneys.

“Moreover, avoid adding too much salt to your food. We should also be aware of the fact that too much citrus and pickled food can increase the levels of salt and pus in our body, which also affect the kidneys negatively,” Dr. Aggour said.

He emphasized as well the importance of monitoring the blood pressure and sugar regularly, as they are among the main causes of kidney failure.

Dr. Aggour added: “We at the SGH Group are committed to providing advanced solutions and patient care and increasing awareness on ways to prevent kidney disorders. Our Group is committed to empowering our patients and contributing to building healthy communities in Saudi Arabia and the region.” — SG
