ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has called on all its students pursuing education abroad to return within 48 hours as the world battles the coronavirus pandemic, state news agency WAM reported on Monday.

According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Education and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, all Emirati students have been urged to coordinate their return trips with the UAE mission in their respective countries of stay.

The move is part of preventive and precautionary measures to ensure the safety of Emirati students abroad, and in line with ongoing efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Earlier in the day, the UAE reported 45 new cases of the coronavirus — the highest single-day number since the start of the outbreak — bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 198.
