DUBAI — Saudi Arabia recorded its first baby born to a coronavirus-infected mother after an Afghan resident gave birth in the city of Madinah, local media reported.
The baby named Omar was delivered at the Uhud Hospital in Madinah on Thursday and is being considered the first case in Saudi Arabia of being born to a COVID-19 infected mother.
“The Afghan woman came to Uhud Hospital on Shaaban 6 (March 30) and was showing coronavirus symptoms. She was given the necessary care and gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday she named Omar.
Both mother and son are doing well and are in good health condition,” Moayad Aboonq, a spokesperson for the health ministry in Madinah, told Saudi state television.
A lockdown was imposed on several neighborhoods in Madinah as part of the Kingdom’s measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic. — Al Arabiya English
