RIYADH — The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has launched a project to revamp electricity networks in Al-Mahra Governorate in order to raise their efficiency and capabilities to meet the increasing power needs and reduce power outages, Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

The project upon its completion will serve 10 thousand beneficiaries of the people of Al-Sada and Al-Souq neighborhood in Al-Ghaida District.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by Gov. of Al-Mahrah Muhammad Ali Yasir in the presence of Minister of State Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Keda and SDRPY director in Al-Mahrah Engineer Abdullah Basulaiman among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Gov. Yasir, expressed his happiness by laying the foundation stone of the project, stressing that the SDRPY is carrying out on a number of projects which will contribute to the positive transformation of services in the province. He conveyed his thanks to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, deputy premier and minister of defense for showing their interest in the Yemeni people and caring for them

The governor said: "We and our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have one body and one homeland, and to more projects and more achievements."

The project aims to boost electrical networks, in addition to supporting and addressing bottlenecks in the medium and low voltage network in the civilian as well as commercial neighborhoods.

The project comes in light of the high temperature, weak infrastructure for electricity utilities and increased electricity consumption in the approaching summer, along with a number of other projects aimed at improving the internal electricity grid lines in Al Ghaida city and other areas in Al Mahrah Governorate.
