JEDDAH — A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 degree on the Richter Scale was recorded nine kilometers deep, east of Qunfudah governorate in the Makkah region, Saudi Press agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
Although the tremor was weak, some residents felt it, according to Tariq Aba Al-Khail, spokesman of the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS).
Aba Al-Khail said that earthquake is not the first one experienced in the region. Though frequent seismic activity occurs but at intervals. These earthquakes are small in strength and their impact exceeds only the slightest sense by citizens.
“SGS is monitoring earthquakes in the Kingdom around the clock, reassuring citizens and residents that the situation is not a cause fear and panic,” he said, while asking God to protect the country from all evil.
