DUBAI -- Oman has confirmed 98 new coronavirus cases, raising the total to 2,735, the health ministry announced on Tuesday.

Forty-two of the new cases are Omani nationals while 56 are non-Omanis.

While the death toll remains low at 12, a total of 858 people have recovered in the Sultanate so far.

Oman on Monday imposed a total lockdown on an industrial area that houses migrant workers in the capital Muscat. This is part of the country's efforts to slow the spread of the virus, especially in densely populated areas.

Ramadan mass gatherings have also been banned and the lockdown imposed on the capital was extended until May 8. -- Al Arabiya English
