MUSCAT — Oman on Thursday registered 327 new cases of the novel coronavirus and three more deaths in the last 24 hours, according to a statement from the country’s health ministry carried by Oman News Agency.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Sultanate to 6,370 and virus-related deaths to 30.

Of the newly detected cases, 105 were Omanis and 222 expatriates.

Most of the people currently infected with the coronavirus do not need to be admitted to hospitals or medical facilities, but they are self-isolating at home and in constant communication with health officials, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries in the Sultanate has risen to 1,821.

Health Minister Ahmad Al Saidi on Thursday said the infection cases are on the rise due to people’s non-observance of social distancing.

Oman this week stepped up precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus, including banning all gatherings during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, including the Eid prayer and celebrations, and warned violators of jailing and fine penalties.
