RIYADH —
The Saudi-led Arab coalition shot down two Houthi drones launched in the direction of Khamis Mushait, located east of Abha in the Kingdom's southwestern province of Asir. The drones were launched by the Houthi militia from Yemen, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing a coalition spokesman.

The two drones targeted the border town, Col. Turki Al-Maliki said, accusing Houthi forces of targeting civilian facilities and residential areas.

The Houthis' actions are in violation of the ceasefire and the de-escalation initiative that began in April and has been spearheaded by the coalition, he said.

The Arab Coalition will continue its measures against the Houthis to neutralize and destroy its capabilities in accordance with international humanitarian law, Al-Maliki said.

The Iran-backed Houthis have been fighting against the UN-recognized government in Yemen and captured the capital Sanaa in 2014.

The Houthi militia has launched sporadic rocket attacks against Saudi Arabia, including a strike on Abha airport last June in which one person was killed and seven others injured.
