Kuwait records 723 new coronavirus cases, 8 more deaths

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday recorded 723 new coronavirus cases and eight more deaths, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency.

With the detection of new cases, the country’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections has surpassed 30,000 mark and now stands at 30,644, while the virus-related death toll has climbed to 244.

Most the new cases were of people who contracted the infection from the already infected individuals while in some cases epidemic investigation is currently underway, the health ministry spokesman said in the statement.

Among the 723 new infections, 262 are Kuwaiti citizens, 139 are Indians, 101 are Bangladeshis, 94 are Egyptians, and the rest are of people of different nationalities.

According to the spokesman, a total of 12, 213 patients are currently receiving necessary treatment out of whom 197 are in intensive care units.

He added that the ministry conducted 2,984 coronavirus tests in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of CONVID-19 tests in the country to 308,900.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Health announced recovery of 1,054 coronavirus patients, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 18,277.

The ministry said in a statement that the laboratory tests and analyses confirmed that these cases were cured of the infection and would be shifted to rehabilitation ward of the hospital specialized for hosting the recovered cases, pending their discharge in two days.
