RIYADH — Minister of Education Dr. Hamad Al-Sheikh chaired the first meeting of the supervisory committee to review textbooks and overall development of the curricula in the Kingdom.

The meeting examined the methodology of the process of reviewing and continuously developing the curricula and ensuring the safety of academic resources so as to enhance the Saudi national identity featuring moderation, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

The discussions focused on the better use of curricula in empowering male and female students in their adaption and interaction with the society, as well as their coexistence with other cultures, in addition to linking them to the identity of their country and its ancient history, besides appreciating their national symbols and belongingness to this homeland and its civilization and showing loyalty to its leadership.

The curricula also meant to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and supporting its main axes to build a vibrant society, a prosperous economy, and an ambitious homeland.

The meeting highlighted the importance of developing curricula to improve the quality of learning outcome, and achieve the 21st century skills in research and innovation, information and media and technical culture, life skills, analytical thinking and problem solving, which reflects positively on the personality of all students, and their qualification for advanced academic stages and the job market.

The newly established Curriculum Development Center at the Ministry of Education relies on a scientific methodology to review the curriculum content and its development, by analyzing current study plans, identifying areas of learning that support the development process, and making comparisons of global reference.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr. Fahd Al-Samari, acting secretary general of King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), and Sheikh Abdul Salam Al Suleiman, member of the Council of Senior Scholars. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mansour Bin Salamah, CEO of Tatweer Educational Services Company, Dr. Sami Al-Showeirekh, general supervisor of the Curriculum Development Center, and Dr. Khaled Aba Al-Hassan, advisor at the Minister’s Office.
