ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday announced 603 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the country to 40,507, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Prevention carried by state news agency WAM.

The new cases were detected after the authorities conducted more than 47,000 additional coronavirus tests among UAE citizens and residents over the past few days, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, an additional 1,277 individuals have fully recovered from the deadly virus, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to more than 24,000, the ministry said, adding that a total of 16,206 individuals are still being treated.

According to the ministry, one patient has died from the virus, raising the country’s death toll to 284.

The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to all positive cases.

It urged the public to cooperate with health authorities and comply with all precautionary measures, particularly social distancing protocols, to ensure the safety and protection of the public.
