MADINAH — Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema Bint Bandar joined scores of mourners in bidding a tearful adieu to the Saudi female nurse Nujood Al-Khaibari who succumbed to coronavirus last week.
“We mourn Nujood’s loss and remember her brave sacrifice; healthcare heroes are battling the global#Covid19 pandemic. Rest in peace #Nurse Nujood AlKhaibari,” the princess said in her tweet.
Nujood, one of the brave health heroes, was working in the health sector of Madinah, died at the age of 45. She is survived by three daughters and a son. After graduating in nursing, Nujood worked tirelessly for 15 years, translating the spirit of dedication and commitment in all senses of the word in her profession.
Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Moayyad Abu Anaq, spokesman of the Health Affairs Department in Madinah, said that the nurse Nujood Al-Khaibari was admitted to Uhud Hospital after she tested positive for coronavirus. She breathed her last on Tuesday.
On her part, Dalal, a niece of Nujood, said: “Nujood was infected with coronavirus a week ago and was in critical condition until we received the news of her demise. We supplicate to Almighty God to shower mercy on her and accommodate her in Paradise.”
Dalal recalled that Nujood lived with her since childhood. “She was an embodiment of humaneness and was a sweet personality who had always been a responsible person and was keen on the welfare and well-being of all those around her,” she added.
Her nephew Omar said: “Nujood deserves all the words of love and gratitude for her dedication to work over 15 years in serving the health department in the holy city."
Last month, a Saudi male nurse, Khaled Abdullah Al-Husseini, who worked at King Abdulaziz Hospital in Makkah, died after getting infected with coronavirus.
