ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates on Monday announced 342 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of infections in the country to 42,636, state news agency WAM reported citing a statement from the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
The ministry said that the new cases were detection after conducting more than 27,000 additional COVID-19 tests among UAE citizens and residents.
Meanwhile, a total of 667 more patients have fully recovered from the deadly virus, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country 28,129, the ministry said adding that a total of 14,216 individuals are still being treated.
The ministry also announced two more deaths as a result of COVID-19 complications, taking the total number of fatalities in the country to 291.
It expressed sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy and full recovery of the infected people.
The ministry spokesman said that the diabetic patients accounted for 40 percent of COVID-19-related deaths as she emphasized the importance of complying with all precautionary measures and following a healthy lifestyle, especially among elderly people suffering from chronic diseases.
