MUSCAT — With 810 new coronavirus cases reported in Oman on Wednesday, the total number of infections in the country rose to 26,079, the Ministry of Health reported. The country reported two new deaths, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 116.

On Tuesday, the country reported 745 new cases. Both days have seen a downward shift from previous days where daily case counts have numbered above 1,000.

Of Wednesday's new cases, 342 were detected in non-Omanis, and 468 were detected in citizens. There were 708 new recoveries, with total recoveries standing at 11,797.

The ministry continues to urge people to adhere to precautionary measures in order to slow the spread of the virus.

“With our commitment to health isolation and social distancing, we will prevent ourselves, our families and our community from the spread of the coronavirus,” the ministry said in a statement.

Oman reported its first two COVID-19 cases on Feb. 24, two Omani women who had caught the virus in Iran. The government moved to implement lockdowns and other preventative measures such as social distancing and wearing face masks. — Agencies
