MANAMA — Bahrain on Friday announced 423 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the kingdom to 27,837, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.

Of the new cases, 252 were of expatriates, while 167 contracted the infection from active cases and four of them were travel-related, the ministry said.

The ministry also said that it conducted 9,700 coronavirus tests on Thursday that led to the detection of the new cases.

The ministry also announced two more deaths, taking the total number of coronavirus-related fatalities so far in the kingdom to 94.

Meanwhile, 635 more patients have recovered from the deadly disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 22,583, the ministry statement added.

According to the ministry statement, 81 percent of the confirmed COVID-19 cases have recovered from the virus and there are currently 5,160 active cases.

Out of a total of 82 coronavirus cases, who are receiving necessary medical care, 51 are in a critical condition.
