SASO participates in ISO meetings to mitigate coronavirus impact

RIYADH — The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) participated in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) meetings to discuss the measures taken by ISO and SASO and its role in mitigating the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

One of the meetings discussed the standard specifications initiatives that were offered to the government and private sectors to enable them to overcome the resulting consequences and challenges of this pandemic, among which the availability of 29 standards issued by ISO for free access to manufacturers, suppliers and specialists.

SASO has also launched initiatives including the extension of the validity period of the previously issued conformity certificates, facilitating procedures through SABER platform, in addition to offering a free and easy access to different standards.

As part of its initiatives, SASO has also increased its awareness activities towards enterprises, covering various essential topics. Those initiatives received attention and the praise from ISO specialists.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by SASO, has obtained membership of the ISO Council for the period of (2018-2020) and the membership was extended until 2021 after winning again the votes of the member states of the International Organization for Standardization. — SPA
