JEDDAH — Kuwait’s Public Prosecution has released Islamist former lawmaker Mubarak Al Duwailah on bail after a five-hour interrogation over leaked conversations with the late Libyan dictator, Muammar Gaddafi, the local media reported on Thursday.
Al Duwailah, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood-aligned Islamic Constitutional Movement, was arrested on Wednesday following an order from the Public Prosecution.
Al-Duwailah was summoned by the state security at the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry a week back as part of its investigation into the contents of the leaked video.
The audio leaks, circulated in late June by Qatari dissident Khalid Al Hail, who lives in London, uncovered a plot to undermine security and cause instability in the Gulf region and Egypt.
Earlier this month, Kuwait's Amiri Diwan had denied recent remarks made by Al-Duwailah that he had briefed Kuwait’s Emir regarding his meeting with late Libyan dictator as “totally untrue.”
The statement carried by Kuwait News Agency read: “Kuwait's Amiri Diwan termed as 'totally untrue and fabrications' the remarks made Mubarak Al-Duwailah that he briefed His Highness the Amir about details of his meeting with ex-president Muammar Gaddafi.”
