RIYADH — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, won three medals in the Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad 2020.

Osama Al-Ali won a silver medal, while Mohammed Al-Hudaithi and Eyad Al-Salehi, each won a bronze, with Saudi Arabia bagging a total of 14 medals in the Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad 2020.

The 54th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad was held virtually, and its results were announced this afternoon, in Moscow, Russia.

The virtual competition was organized between July 13-18 with two theoretical exams. The International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO) is a major international competition for secondary-school students in chemistry.

It started in the USSR as the All-Union Olympiad in Chemistry in 1967. Now more than 30 countries participate in IMChO. An international jury of leading chemical scientists around the world make up the exam problems for the Olympiad.

The main working languages of IMChO are Russian and English. — SPA
