RIYADH — Saudi Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) on Thursday launched a new national registration platform to collect data on people who have tested positive for coronavirus in the Kingdom in an effort to strengthen and intensify the country’s efforts to reduce its spread.

The platform will collect statistical data of coronavirus positive cases in the Kingdom that can help those carrying out researches and studies on the disease, especially in clinical trials of drug efficacy and treatment protocols, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The platform will serve a qualitative addition to the scientific efforts launched by the center since the beginning of the pandemic to stem its spread, according to the report.

The platform is of effective public health tools for disease prevention and includes early warning and detection programs, response, and preparedness systems. It can particularly contribute to expanding the efforts of monitoring disease spread, protect high-risk groups, and supporting health care facilities with expertise and knowledge, the report added.

The CDC has harnessed all its potential to contribute to reducing the effects of the pandemic.

Since its foundation, the CDC has been making similar efforts to combat and monitor infectious and non-communicable diseases and prevent their spread in the Kingdom.
