New coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia drop below 2,000-mark for third consecutive day

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia reported less than 2,000 new coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day on Tuesday as it detected 1,897 new infections during the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom to 270,831.

The ministry also announced that 29 more patients died due to complications caused by the infections, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 2,789.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,688 more people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 225,62, with the recovery rate hitting 83.3 percent.

Of the new cases, Taif topped the list with 183 new infections followed by Hufof and Riyadh with 167 and 118 cases respectively.

Meanwhile, Makkah reported 117 new cases, Khamis Mushayt reported 91, Hail saw 76 new infections and Jeddah recorded 74 cases.

The other new infections were detected in cities and provinces across Saudi Arabia.

The total number of active cases in the Kingdom stands at 42,418 out of which 2,103 are in critical condition.

The number of additional coronavirus tests conducted in the Kingdom over the past 24 hours exceeded 64,000.
