ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates on Monday recorded 164 new coronavirus cases and 248 recoveries as the recovery rate has hit 90 percent — one of the highest globally, according, UAE’s Minister of Health and Prevention Abdul Rahman Al-Owais.

Addressing a press conference, the minister also said that the UAE conducted over 5 million coronavirus tests since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The minister also said that the extensive testing has contributed greatly to the country’s success in stemming the spread of the virus and achieving the high number of recoveries.

However, not complying with preventative measures and socializing without physical distancing are the “biggest challenge in our fight against the disease,” Al-Owais added.

Meanwhile, with the detection of new cases and more recoveries over the past 24 hours, the total number of confirmed infections and recoveries in the UAE has reached 61,163 and 54,863 respectively.

According to the ministry, the new patients, all of whom are in a stable condition and receiving the necessary care, were detected after 27,811 of additional coronavirus tests were conducted.

The ministry has also confirmed that no new fatalities have been reported for the third day, leaving the current death toll at 351.
