RIYADH — Saudi Border Guards seized a haul of 245 kilograms of hashish at a security checkpoint in the governorate of Al-Daer in the southwestern region of Jazan, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.
The successful operation was part of the continued efforts being made by the Border Guards to thwart attempts of criminal networks to smuggle drugs across the Kingdom’s borders.
Commenting on the case, Lt Col. Misfer Al-Quraini, the spokesperson for the Border Guards, said that a total of 12 individuals — 11 Ethiopians and one Yemeni national — were involved in the smuggling bid. All of them have been arrested and referred to the competent authorities for required legal procedures.
Al-Quraini stressed that the Border Guards will not be negligent in carrying out their duties and confronting anyone who tries to undermine the border security, warning of strict punitive measures.
