UAE sees surge in coronavirus cases with 491 new infections

ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates registered 491 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 68,511, the Ministry of Health and Prevention said in a statement carried by state news agency WAM.

The ministry said that it conducted 68,043 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment and reiterated its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate
the early detection of coronavirus cases and to carry out the necessary treatment.

The ministry also noted an additional 402 individuals had fully recovered from the deadly disease, bringing the total number of recoveries in the UAE to 59,472.

The ministry also announced that no death was recorded during the past 24 hours. — WAM
