RIYADH — The Arab coalition late Sunday intercepted a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia toward Saudi Arabia.
“The joint coalition forces intercepted and destroyed a (explosive-laden) drone in Yemeni airspace, which was launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia toward the Kingdom to target civilian objects and civilians in a systematic and deliberate manner,” spokesperson Col. Turki Al-Maliki said in a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
"We will work to neutralize and destroy the Houthi capabilities in accordance with international humanitarian law,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, a Houthi military spokesman a drone was launched toward Saudi Abha International Airport. It aimed at "military sites and sensitive targets," a Houthi militia spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying.
The Yemeni army with the support of the Arab coalition has been able to thwart several attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in the past 48 hours, Yemen’s Minister of Information Moammar Al-Eryani said on Sunday.
