RIYADH — The Ministry of Culture is preparing to set up an interactive digital museum in Jeddah in cooperation with the international Japanese digital art group teamLab.

The museum is part of a ten-year agreement between the ministry and teamLab under which the museum will be established in Jeddah by the beginning of 2023.

The art group teamLab is specialized in designing digital museums in which arts and technology intersect in innovative creative spaces. It established the world’s first digital museum, which is known for its colorful, futuristic digital art installations and photo ops.

The Japanese teamLab is known for its innovations in museums and interactive exhibits that provide a different emotional experience to visitors, using modern technologies and accurate software.

The team achieved global successes through its main museums in Tokyo and Shanghai, and was able to attract large numbers of visitors, with numbers that are among the highest in the world for specialized museums.

The awe-inspiring permanent digital art museum in Tokyo is known as Mori Building Digital Art Museum.

The teamLab team is set to present a special design for the museum, which contains exclusive and new works that have never been presented before, and technologies designed specifically for the new museum.

It also includes a section dedicated to children that presents a unique journey, which combines science and art in one creative mix.

The ministry’s new initiative comes in the context of its endeavor to bring the latest international quality artistic events to the Kingdom and to provide high-end creative options for the local audience in various Saudi cities.

In this context, the ministry plans to transfer this experience to Riyadh at a later period to give more space to the public wishing to attend the event.

The organization of specialized museums is among the first package of initiatives announced by the ministry during the inaugural ceremony of its activity in March 2019, including future museums that invest in technology and innovative creative arts.
