HARGEISA, Somaliland — In collaboration with the Norwegian Council for Refugees, Riyadh-based King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), Saudi Arabia's charity arm, has launched a number of humanitarian projects for the protection of women and children, water and environmental reforms and education in Somaliland worth $2.2 million (SR8.2 million), benefiting 100,000 persons, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

Commenting on the aid, Minister of Planning and National Development of Somaliland Hasan Mohammed Ali lauded the role of KSRelief in implementing many relief and humanitarian programs and projects in the Islamic world in general and Somaliland in particular.

For his part, the assistant director of the KSRelief in Africa, Youssef Bakheet Al-Rahmah said that the projects and programs launched by KSRelief are also aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus in Somaliland.

In an unrelated development, KSTelief continued the distribution of foodstuff to the needy Syrian and Palestinian families located in a number of Lebanese provinces.

According to the SPA report, a total of 16,967 kg of foodstuff was given away, benefiting 2,122 families.
