KUWAIT CITY — The body of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was laid to its final resting place on Wednesday.
The body of the late emir arrived in Kuwait on Wednesday afternoon from the United States and it was received by Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and other high-ranking officials at the Kuwait International Airport, the Kuwait News Agency reported.
Several roads were closed in the afternoon to make way for the vehicles that carried the late emir’s body to the Grand Mosque of Kuwait where his relatives, including Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, and deputy head of National Guard Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah offered the funeral prayers.
His body was later taken to the cemetery.
Sheikh Sabah died on Tuesday in the US, where he had been undergoing medical treatment since July after surgery in Kuwait.
Mosques across the country held Maghreb prayers for the Sheikh Sabah.
The emir’s grave will be open to the public for visits on Thursday. — Agencies
