AMMAN — King Abdullah II of Jordan appointed veteran diplomat and key aide Bisher Al-Khasawneh as the country's new prime minister, Jordan's news agency, Petra, reported.
King Abdullah accepted the resignation of Jordanian Cabinet led by Prime Minister Omar Al-Razzaz on Oct. 3.
King Abdullah II on Sept. 27 dissolved the parliament at the end of its four-year term, forcing the government to resign within a week.
The parliamentary elections in Jordan are scheduled to be held on Nov. 10, which will now be overseen by the new premier.
The king in a letter said he entrusted Al-Khasawneh to form a Cabinet of qualified individuals who can deal with the challenges the country is facing.
Jordan is currently facing economic challenges compounded by the coronavirus crisis, sparking public anger. — Agencies
