Applications for parliament election candidacy open on Monday

KUWAIT — The Kuwaiti parliamentary hopefuls will be allowed to apply for candidacy of the National Assembly from Monday to Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior said on Saturday.

Conditions include being a naturalized Kuwaiti national by law, to have enlisted for voting by no less than 30 years, proficiency in Arabic language and not having been convicted of a felony or a crime.

The elections are also forbidden to anybody who has been convicted of a final ruling for the crime of insulting the divine, holy prophets and the Emir of the country.

Voters, who will head to ballot boxes on Dec. 5, will opt for 10 lawmakers in each of the country’s five voting constituencies to represent them at the National Assembly. — KUNA
