Minor tremor recorded in Khamis Mushait

RIYADH — A minor earthquake, measuring 3.1 degrees on the Richter scale, and at the depth of 2.5 km, was recorded in Saudi Arabia’s southern Asir region.

The seismic monitoring stations of the National Network for Earthquakes and Volcanoes of the Saudi Geological Survey monitored the tremor, which occurred at 2:56 p.m., 10 kilometers south of Khamis Mushait.


There were no casualties or injuries reported in the incident, according to Al-Ekhbaria TV channel. It is noteworthy that this was the second time Khamis Mushait region experienced a mild earthquake in the last six months. On May 9, a tremor, measuring 3.45 on the Richter scale, was recorded in an area, 16 kilometers east of Khamis Mushait.

Last April, a tremor measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale and at the depth of 9 kilometers was recorded east of Qunfudah governorate in the Makkah region. Some parts of the Kingdom experience minor seismic activity in intermittent intervals.
