KAUST – the fancy city

October 29, 2020

Noor A. AlNaboud

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Jeddah started as a dream for King Abdullah, may Allah have mercy on him, and this dream became a reality. Once established the fancy city has become a place in Saudi Arabia where all dreams come true for humanity.

I no doubt believe that the political and economic stability of Saudi Arabia was the main reason to found KAUST here, for it accommodates almost 110 nationalities of different race, culture, and color in private housing.

For many years KAUST was isolated from any contact from those outside its perimeter, and it was not in a position to show off its real capability due to the limits of the then regulations, which does not resonate with Saudi Arabia’s culture.

However, with the change in regulations KAUST is shining again and it now counts as one of the premier Saudi institutes that has the responsibility to contribute to the Saudi Vision 2030, in making the world a better place.

KAUST is the model of our new Saudi Arabia that call on all dreamers to join forces to shape the future of knowledge as stated by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

KAUST has been designed and built to international standards, as it aims to serve the world by providing innovational researches and products by attracting experts, researchers and students from around the world in order to provide the needed solutions.

KAUST is the gate that opens into the city of high education — at the level of masters and PhD degrees in four main majors (Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering, Computer and Electrical and Mathematical Science and Engineering, Physical Science and Engineering, Academic Affairs, Expanding Knowledge).

KAUST is also a contributing factor in providing scholarships, international lab center, supercomputers adapting scientific computing in an effort to multitask for researches in science and engineering. Moreover, KAUST is a certified source for research on a global basis.

Having all these facilities in KAUST, it provides innovators there a chance to utilize all the provided services to act in the preparation of something new for the world. KAUST, till date, has achieved 1,000 scientific awards and come up with 14 scientific researches and contributed to the establishment of start-up companies.

I believe KAUST leaders are working constantly to achieve the future of dreamers that our leadership aims to have in such a great country.
