DUBAI — Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday received a dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
In a tweet, Sheikh Mohammed said: "We wish everyone safety and great health, and we are proud of our teams who have worked relentlessly to make the vaccine available in the UAE. The future will always be better in the UAE."
In a photo he posted, the Dubai ruler is seen receiving the vaccine shot in his shoulder.
Healthcare worker, ministers and top officials in the UAE have been receiving the vaccine following its approval for emergency use.
Last month, UAE's Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi received the vaccine jab.
UAE's Minister of Health and Prevention Abdul Rahman Al-Owais was the first in the country to have received the vaccine.
The vaccine, developed by China's Sinopharm, is now in the third and final stage of clinical trials and has so far been found safe and effective, according to authorities.
