RIYADH — Saudi students have won six international awards at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, which was held virtually from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5, 2020.

The Olympiad is an international mathematical contest for students attending high school, but not exceeding the age of 20.

Saudi Arabia, represented by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), participated in the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad with a team that consists of six students. The students received 3,000 training hours under the supervision of distinguished national and international trainers.

Saudi Arabia participates annually in the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad since 2010, except for 2013. Through its previous nine participations, Saudi Arabia has won 36 awards.

The Balkan Mathematical Olympiad gained its importance from the participating countries and its pioneering role in establishing the International Mathematics Olympiad in 1957.

Mawhiba’s students have been able to win 396 international awards during the past ten years, achieving tremendous successes in important scientific fields and in fierce international competitions against counterparts from industrial and advanced countries.
