JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia will host the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Jeddah next year, Saudi Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki announced on Thursday.

Unveiling the mega event at the Jeddah waterfront, Prince Abdulaziz said: “Welcome to Formula 1 and welcome to the champions.”

He also said that the F1 race would help Saudi Arabia become a hub for such international sporting events. The Saudi minister thanked Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, for his unlimited support. Prince Abdulaziz said: “The nation’s vision in achieving its goals continues with the support of the man behind the vision, Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.”

He added that Saudi Arabia has “learned a lot from hosting the Dakar Rally, the electric Formula E series,” and other sporting events during the last two years.

The race is coming to Saudi Arabia as part of a long-term partnership between Formula 1 and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF).

It will take place on Jeddah’s corniche, providing a stunning coastal backdrop for a full weekend of live motorsport, entertainment and culture. — SG
